Phone scams often use urgent warnings or threats to make you act quickly. A caller may claim that your card has been blocked, a relative urgently needs money, you owe a debt or you have won a prize.

Do not disclose banking passwords, PINs or verification codes, or send money in response to an unexpected call. A convincing story does not establish the caller’s identity.

If a call seems suspicious, end it. Contact your bank or the relevant organisation directly using a number from its official website, app or your existing documents.
