Attackers can create Wi-Fi networks with names similar to legitimate ones, hoping to persuade people to connect.

Once connected, they may try to monitor traffic or direct you to a fake page asking for a password. Treat unfamiliar public networks as untrusted.

To reduce the risk:

  • Check the exact network name before connecting.
  • Avoid banking and payments on an unknown network.
  • Use mobile data where possible. A trusted VPN can help protect traffic, but it does not make fraudulent pages safe.
