Fraudsters can use QR codes to direct people to phishing websites or harmful downloads.
A malicious code may be placed somewhere that seems trustworthy, such as a restaurant, parking meter or promotional leaflet. Scanning it can display a link to a fake page that asks for personal or payment information.
Only follow QR codes from sources you can verify. If the code’s origin is unclear, do not continue to the website or download it offers.
