What you will learn

  • Check the amount and currency on the terminal before paying.
  • Protect the PIN and card information during everyday use.
  • Respond to a lost card or transaction you do not recognise.

Practice example

The terminal shows more than the receipt

In-store payment
The terminal shows more than the receipt

The receipt total is RSD 2,490, but the terminal displays RSD 24,900 before you tap.

Fictional situation for practice.
Show the example explanation
The amounts do not match
Do not tap until the merchant checks and corrects the transaction.
Payment is fast
Contactless speed is not a reason to skip the displayed amount.
A receipt may help
Keep it when needed to compare account activity or raise a dispute.

Before paying

Read the amount and currency on the terminal before tapping a card, phone or watch. If they do not match the bill, do not approve the transaction until it is corrected. A queue is not a reason to skip this brief check.

Keep the card in sight. If the terminal cannot be brought to you, request another way to pay. Enter the PIN yourself and shield the keypad.

Protect card information

Do not photograph or send the complete card. Do not share its number, expiry date, security code or a one-time code with someone who contacts you unexpectedly. Receiving money from an unknown buyer does not require your PIN, security code or approval through a link they provide.

Enable transaction alerts and review account activity regularly. An alert may be delayed or disabled, so it does not replace reviewing the account.

If the card is lost or a charge is unknown

  1. Block the card immediately in the official app if available, or call the bank using a verified number.
  2. Explain when you last controlled the card and identify transactions you do not recognise.
  3. Follow the bank’s instructions about permanent blocking, replacement and disputing a transaction. A temporary lock is not always the same as cancellation.
  4. Preserve the receipt, time, merchant name and transaction alerts. Never send a PIN or security code as evidence.

The outcome of a disputed transaction depends on the circumstances and the bank’s process and should not be promised in advance.

The terminal amount does not match the receipt. What do you do?

Why does this matter? Tapping may approve the displayed value rather than the one you expected.

  1. Pay and ask the merchant later.

Checking later is weaker than preventing the incorrect charge.

  2. Stop and ask for the amount to be checked before payment.Correct answer

Correction before approval keeps the payment decision under your control.

  3. Cover the PIN and continue.

Protecting the PIN does not fix an incorrect amount.

A merchant takes your card into another room to process payment. What is safer?

Why does this matter? When the card is out of sight, you cannot see how it is used or what information is recorded.

  1. Ask for payment in front of me or use another method.Correct answer

The card remains under your control during the transaction.

  2. Give them the PIN to speed it up.

A PIN must not be disclosed to another person.

  3. Accept it if the merchant seems friendly.

A personal impression is not control over how the card is handled.

The card is lost, but no unknown transaction is visible. What do you do?

Why does this matter? No current charge does not mean the card cannot be used later.

  1. Wait until tomorrow.

Waiting extends the time available for possible misuse.

  2. Post a photograph of the card so someone recognises it.

A photograph can expose card details further.

  3. Block it immediately in the official app or contact the bank.Correct answer

Prompt blocking or bank contact limits risk and starts the bank's check.

No registration. Your answers are not sent; the result is just for you.

Look, then pay

Check the amount and currency before approval; report a lost card or unknown transaction to the bank immediately.
